Why do we Exist?

There are lots of Community Groups and Charities out there so why did we set up a new one?

My name is Peter Robertshaw and I am the Founder & Chairperson of H.O.P.E in Community.

I personally didn’t have a great upbringing, I was bullied, suffered abuse and was called a failure all my life. I have personally suffered, and still do, from depression, anxiety and often struggle to celebrate my own achievements. I also have learning disabilities.

So, in September 2017 I decided that I was going to set up a community group to make a difference to the community of Barnsley - H.O.P.E in Community.

I wanted to make a safe place where families can learn new skills, make friends and socialise together. We are here to help you though your struggles and to help you celebrate your success.

Our mission statement is:

“To build the confidence and resilience of individuals and families by improving their health and well being”

The reason we picked this mission statement is to help build individuals confidence up by showing them basic skills and giving them the opportunity to network with others with similar experiences. We also aim to improve their health and well being by looking at diet, mental health, stress, money management, exercise.

Our core Values

Enthusiasm- We want people to enjoy their time with us and take an interest in developing themselves

Optimism- We want all of our clients to be hopeful and confident about themselves and their future as we believe everyone can achieve anything

Empowerment- We want everyone to be able to use their own power and skills to achieve their plans

An extra Value to me personally to be an Encourager to help everyone see their full potential

We have helped several people into employment, we have delivered 5 Cooking courses, we have provided 11 Healthy Holidays sessions and our term time toddlers group.

We have manged to support over 250 people in our first year.
